DYNASTS of LYCIA. Perikle, circa 380-360 BC. Stater (Silver, 24mm, 9.90 g 12). Laueate and bearded head of Perikle facing, turned slightly to left and with his hair in dramatic disarray; traces of a cloak around his neckline. Rev. PARIKLA , (in Lycian script). Warrior, nude but for his helmet, advancing right, brandishing sword with his right hand and holding oval shield with his left; below right, triskeles to left. Mildenberg, Mithrapata 24 (A15/R19). Podalia 414-8 (A2/P5). SNG Copenhagen Supp. 478 ( same dies ). SNG von Aulock 4252 ( same dies ). Toned and with an exceptionally impressive portrait. Some areas struck flat, otherwise , nearly extremely fine.

The portrait of Perikle on this coin shows a man who seems to be filled with concern and worry about the future. His staring eyes and wild hair makes it quite clear that being a Lycian ruler was not an easy task.
