Description

KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17mm, 4.29 g 12), Abydos, c. 310-301. Head of Herakles in lion skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, monogram of ΜΕ; below throne, ivy leaf. Price 1560. An attractive, nicely toned example. Extremely fine.
