Description

SICILY, Messana. Circa 428-426 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26mm, 17.33 g 2). The Nymph Messana seated right, holding the reins in both hands, driving a biga of mules walking to right; above, Nike flying left to crown her; in exergue, laurel leaf. Rev. MEΣΣANION Hare springing to right. Basel 362 ( this coin ). Caltabiano 469.1 (D 195/R 188, this coin ). Very attractively toned, well centered and very pretty. Nearly extremely fine.
