Description

SICILY, Gela. Circa 480/75-475/70 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19mm, 8.66 g 9). Rider galloping to right, bearded and nude but for high helmet, hurling spear with his raised right hand. Rev. CΕΛΑ Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Kraay & Hirmer 156. Jenkins, Gela 28. SNG ANS 5. SNG Ashmolean 1720. Attractively toned and with a very powerful reverse. Some striking flatness, otherwise , extremely fine.
