Description

LUCANIA, Thourioi. Circa 350-300 BC. Stater (Silver, 23mm, 7.79 g 2). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone to right; on the neckpiece, ΣΩ. Rev. [ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ] / ΣΩΓ Bull butting to right, his head lowered; below, between the hind legs, monogram of ΑΡ; below to right, dove; in exergue, fish to right. HN III 1820. SNG ANS 1060 ( same dies ). A lovely, toned coin of excellent style. Slightly tight flan, otherwise , about extremely fine.
