Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 315-302 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.89 g, 6 h), struck under the magistrates Sa... and So... ΣA Warrior on horseback galloping right, holding two spears and a shield with left hand, preparing to cast javelin held aloft in right. Rev. TAPAΣ Phalanthos, nude, holding kantharos in extended right hand and cradling trident in left arm, riding dolphin to left; to left, Ω above arm, Σ below; below, small dolphin left. Fischer-Bossert 878 (V345/R681). HN III 937. Vlasto 611 (same obverse die). An attractive example. Small ding on reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
