Description

Kings of Macedon. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.15 g, 1 h), Amphipolis, 315-294. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; Λ above torch; below throne, monogram of ΚΟ. Price 490. Bright and well-struck. Extremely fine.
