Description

Kings of Macedon. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.10 g, 12 h), Damascus, 330-320. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, ΑΡ Χ; below throne, ΔΑ. Price 3197. Attractive and bright with a well-centered obverse. A rare early issue from Damascus. Nearly extremely fine.
