Description

Diocletian, 284-305. Aureus (Gold, 20.5 mm, 4.65 g, 5 h), Antioch, 1st officina, 284-286. IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG Laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Diocletian to right. Rev. IOVI CONSERV-ATORI AVG /SMA Jupiter standing to left, holding thunderbolt in his right hand and long scepter with his left; at his feet to left, O. Biaggi -. Cohen 272. Calicó 4515b. Depeyrot 1/1. Lukanc, Antiochia 10. RIC 316. Repair marks at 12h, apparently a brilliantly pluggged hole, otherwise, about extremely fine.
From the Trausnitz Collection, ex Giessener Münzhandlung 55, 14 May 1991, 771 (DM 6200, but there the plugging described as a "Schrötlingsfehler").
