Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Pyrrhos, 278-276 BC. (Bronze, 22.5 mm, 9.97 g, 10 h). [ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ] Head of youthful Herakles to left, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. Athena Promachos advancing tο right, wielding thunderbolt held aloft in her right hand, shield on her left arm; in left field, trident head right. BAR issue 52. CNS II 177. SNG ANS 847. Dark green patina with softer overtones. Light porosity, otherwise, very fine.

From the stock of an old Swiss dealer assembled mainly in the 1960s-1970s, with a Münzen & Medaillen ticket.
