Description

SICILY. Kamarina. Circa 425-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.17 g, 11 h). Athena, wearing helmet, aegis and a long chiton, and holding a kentron in her right hand and the reins in her left, driving a quadriga galloping to right; above, Nike flying to left to crown her; in exergue, grey mullet swimming to right. Rev. KAMAPI – NAION Head of youthful Herakles to right, with a light beard and wearing a lion's skin headdress; below his chin, olive sprig with an olive. SNG Lloyd 869 (same dies). Westermark & Jenkins 144.3 (this coin). Very rare, and of fine late 5th century style. Good very fine.
