LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 334-300 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.51 g, 8 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing Attic helmet adorned with a griffin and with her hair in a pony-tail tied at the end; behind her neck, Θ. Rev. YEΛΗΤΩΝ Lion walking to right; below, Θ. HN III 1284. SNG ANS 1302 (same dies). Williams 257 (O150/R204). Very attractively toned and of very fine style. Minor traces of overstriking on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
