Description

CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Carnutes. First half of the 1st century BC. Stater (Gold, 22 mm, 7.08 g, 12 h). Celticized head of Apollo to right, with particularly curly hair and two feather-like locks at the back of his neck, wearing a torc, an "earring" of three pellets and with a beaded truncation. Rev. [KAB]AΛΛOS: CON[TIIΘIL] Charioteer, holding kentron in his left hand and reins in his right, driving biga to right; below, lyre. De la Tour 5957 = Delestrée & Tache 2536. Delestrée & Tache S 2536a. An extremely rare and important type; clear and attractive. Good very fine.
