Anastasius I, 491-518. Solidus (Gold, 20 mm, 4.48 g, 6 h), Constantinople, 5th officina = E, 492-507. D N ANASTA-SIVS P P AVG Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Anastasius facing, holding spear with his right hand over his right shoulder and with a shield, embellished with horseman attacking a fallen foe, over his left. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG E / CONOB Victory standing left, holding a long jeweled cross; in field to right, star. DOC 3e. MIBE 4a. SB 3. Unusually sharp, well-struck and attractive. Some minor traces of die rust, otherwise, good extremely fine.
