Description

Augustus, 28/27 BC-14 AD. Ephesus. Cistophoric Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 12.04 g, 12 h), circa 28-20 BC. IMP•CAESAR• DIVI •F•COS•VI•LIBERTATIS•P•R•VINDEX Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. Pax standing on parazonium to left, holding caduceus in her right hand; in field to left, PAX; in field to right, snake emerging from a cista; around, laurel wreath. BMC 691. Cohen 218. RPC 2203. RIC 476. A very clear and attractive specimen, with a rather intellectual-looking portrait of Augustus. Some very fine scratches on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
