Description

Bithynia
Herakleia Pontika. Circa 360/340 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.96 g, 12 h). Youthful head of Herakles to left, wearing lion's skin headdress; below neck, club to left. Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΙΑ Head of Hera to left, wearing turreted stephane adorned with palmette and two punctated discs, pendant earring, and torch-like necklace; before her neck, astragalos. Jameson 1384 (this coin). RG II 21. Cf. SNGBM 1597 ff. and SNG von Aulock 358. Very rare. Beautifully toned and of very attractive style. Extremely fine.
