Macedon
Akanthos. Circa 480-470 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 16 mm, 2.30 g). Forepart of a lioness to left, her head twisted and seen from above, as if gnawing on her prey; above, rosette. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. AMNG III/2, 14 var (no rosette). BMC -. SNG ANS -. Rare. An unusually attractive, toned and well-struck piece. Lightly grainy surfaces, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a German private collection, formed in the 1990s.
