Description

Carthage
Circa 350-320 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 9.49 g, 3 h). Head of Tanit to left, wearing triple-pendant earring, necklace tied at the back and hung with eight pendants and a wreath of grain leaves. Rev. Horse standing to right with three pellets arranged as an inverted triangle just above the ground line; in the exergue, garbled inscription. Jenkins & Lewis Group IIIa (unrecorded dies = eight pendants on the obverse and the garbled "inscription", the obverse close to IIIb, 15, the reverse close to IIIa, 4 and 10). A very rare early issue, of excellent style and nicely toned. Some minor bangs and flatness, otherwise, extremely fine.
