Selinos. Circa 417/413 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 16.54 g, 6 h). ΣΕΛΙΝΟΝΤΙΟN Nike standing right, driving a fast quadriga galloping to the right; above, olive wreath tied above; below, in exergue, wheat ear. Rev. The river-god Selinos, horned and nude, holding laurel branch in his left hand and a phiale in his right; to left, rooster standing left before a burning altar; to right, selinon leaf over bull standing left on a base. Cf. Kraay & Hirmer 191 (same obverse die). Schwabacher 45. Very rare. Of particularly elegant full Classical style, with a lively and exciting obverse. Traces of corrosion and die rust on the reverse, skillfully cleaned, otherwise, extremely fine / very fine.
