Messana. Circa 412-408 BC. Litra (Silver, 13.5 mm, 0.65 g, 11 h). Hare springing to right; below, Λ and scallop shell. Rev. MEΣ (retrograde!) within olive wreath with ties to right. Caltabiano 637 (D4/R4, these dies, but the retrograde legend is unnoted). Cf. SNG ANS 349 and SNG Copenhagen 413. A very rare variant, the only other known example in Paris. Very sharply struck and with a beautiful, dark gray patina as found. Extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection, acquired prior to 2000.
