Description

Lucania
Metapontum. Time of Kleonymos, circa 302 BC. Third stater (Gold, 13.5 mm, 2.57 g, 5 h), Achaian standard. NIKA Head of Nike facing, turned slightly to the right, with her hair in ampyx, wearing single-pendant earring and necklace. Rev. METAΠON Barley ear with six grains and leaf to right. Gulbenkian 71 (same die). HN III 1629. Johnston G3 (same dies as the plate coin). Kraay & Hirmer 245 (same obverse die). Very rare. Clearly struck on a broad flan. Nearly extremely fine.
