Northwest Gaul
Seno-Carnutes. Late 3rd - early 2nd century BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 12 mm, 2.05 g, 10 h), "au griffon ailé" type. Head of Apollo to right, of very good style but with his hair rendered as snake-like curls. Rev. Griffin galloping to right; below right, sun in rays (?). Cf. D & T 2515, but of much finer style than all other known examples – as such unpublished. Extremely rare. A coin of superb style for the type, very probably the prototype for the series. Extremely fine.
