ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 168/7-90/80 BC. (Bronze, 13 mm, 1.49 g, 7 h). Bearded head of Herakles left. Rev. ΘAC-IΩN Cornucopia to right. HGC 6, 37. Le Rider, Thasiennes 68. SNG Copenhagen 1061. Rare; light green patina. Very fine.
This is a particularly scarce coin from Thasos. Although it is dated roughly after the Roman conquest until the 90s BC, the fabric of this coin reminisces later provincial issues. This assumption is also strengthened by the appearance of a Latin C instead of the Greek Σ, which appears in the region after the mid 1st century AD.
