Description

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 340-330 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 21.5 mm, 7.81 g, 2 h). ΛEYKI-ΠΠOΣ Helmeted head of Leukippos to right; behind, dog seated left, forepaw raised; below neck truncation, Σ. Rev. META Barley ear of seven grains, leaf to right; dove right above leaf, AMI below leaf; in the left field, graffito of ΠEP. HN III 1576. Johnston Class B, 3.2 (same obverse die). SNG Fitzwilliam 498. With a fine head on the obverse. A few marks and with a reverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, very fine.
