Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 240-228 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 19 mm, 6.57 g, 7 h), struck under magistrate Aristippos. APISTIΠΠ[OS] Nude ephebe, holding filleted palm frond in his right hand and reins in his left, riding horse galloping to right; behind, AP monogram. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding kantharos in his upraised left and resting his left on the back of the dolphin; to right, MY monogram. HN III 1056. Vlasto 949 (same dies). A lustrous and sharp example, struck in good silver. Extremely fine.
