Coins with the mint name Ifriqiya were obviously struck in the Tunisian city of Qayrawan, an important center for Sunni Islamic scholarship and Qur’anic learning founded by Umayyads in c. 670 CE. This dirham is among the earliest numismatic evidences naming the province of Ifriqiya in the Maghreb region.
