Bien que des monnaies frappées au marteau aient été produites depuis le second quart du XIXème siècle, il faut attendre l'émission du 29 octobre 1863 pour que le monnayage d'or moderne fasse partie intégrante du système monétaire thaïlandais. Cette émission fut démonétisée en 1908 et circula concurremment aux Pot Duang durant un demi-siècle, avant que les frappes réalisées à la machine ne s'imposent définitivement. Ce nouveau monnayage marque la différenciation entre le Baht comme unité monétaire et le Baht comme unité de poids. L'inflation conduisit ainsi à l'émission de pièces d'or de plusieurs milliers de Baht au cours du XXème siècle.

Although some hammered coins were produced as early as the second quarter of the 19th century, the modern gold coinage was first issued on the 29th October 1863, becoming an integral part of the Thai monetary system. This issue circulated in rivalry with the Pot Duang during half a century until their demonetization in 1908 when the strike was definitely operated by machines. This new coinage marks the differentiation between the Baht as monetary unit and the Baht as a weight unit. Finally, during the 20th century, inflation drove the strike of gold coins worth thousands of Baht.
