Caligula, 37-41. AR drachm. Caesarea, Cappadocia, dated AD 37-38. C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS, bare head of Caligula right / IMPERATOR PONT MAX AVG TR POT, simpulum (sacrificial ladle) and lituus (augur's wand). RIC 63. RPC 3624. Very rare.

Coins classified as silver "drachms" from the Caesarea, Cappadocia come in varieties with Latin and Greek legends, which straddle the line between "Imperial" and "Provincial" issues. Those with latin legends are often considered Imperial issues and were undoubtedly minted to pay Roman soldiers in eastern garrisons.
