ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. al-Walid I ibn 'Abd al-Malik, AH 86-96 / AD 705-715. Pashiz. (0.78gm, 21mm) Arab-Sasanian type, citing governor al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf (694-713), without mint and date. Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing elaborate mural crown; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, 'Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf' (in Kufic); in outer margin, 'bism Allah la ilah illa Allah wahdahu Muhammad Rasul Allah' Rev. PEROZ BAVAD HACAC ('May he be victorious, al-Hajjaj' in Pahlawi) Male bearded figure standing right, wearing long robe and raising both overemphasised hands in prayer. Album B-37. Gyselen 79.
