AN INTERESTING COLLECTION OF ROMAN REPUBLICAN COINS FORMED BY AN ENGLISH AMATEUR SCHOLAR
A lot of five coins containing: one lightweight Crawford 56/5 quadrans, Æ 1.73 g. Head of Hercules r., wearing lion’s skin; behind, three pellets. Rev. ROMA Prow r.; below, three pellets, RBW –. Cf. McCabe ”Anonymous Bronzes” pp.175-179 type H1. Crawford cf.56/5; four different examples of lightweight Crawford 56/6 sextantes, Æ 3.50 g. Æ 2.35.g. Æ 2.20.g. Æ 2.05.g. These are likely second Punic war overstrike issues at half the usual weight standard, probably struck in Sardinia.
