GREEK COINS
Thessaly, Larissa
Drachm circa 460, AR 5.42 g. Horse grazing l.; between its legs, dog l., head reverted. In field above, caduceus l. Rev. LA - RIS - AI - ON around linear frame within which Sandal of Jason l.; above, labrys. All in incuse square. Lederer, SNR 30/1943, p. 39 and pl. II, 23. Kagan, Obolos 7, p. 86 and pl. 2, 4 (this coin). BCD Thessaly part II 3144 (this coin).
Rare. Lovely iridescent tone, slightly rough surfaces, otherwise very fine
Ex Triton XV, 2012, BCD, 144.
Apparently the second known archaic drachm with this symbol, which was unknown to Hermann.
