GREEK COINS
The Carthaginians in Sicily and North Africa
Tetradrachm, uncertain mint in Sicily circa 325-305, AR 17.33 g. Prancing quadriga driven r. by charioteer, holding kentron and reins; in field above, Nike flying l. to crown him. In exergue, r’smlqrt in Punic characters. Rev. Head of Tanit r., wearing barley wreath, earring and dotted necklace; around, three dolphins. Boston 269 (this obverse die). SNG Lloyd 1603 (this obverse die). Jenkins 49.
Struck on a very large flan and exceptionally complete with a light iridescent tone. An
absolutely unobtrusive metal flaw at twelve o’clock on reverse, otherwise extremely fine
