Calabria, Tarentum. Nomos circa 340-325 BC, AR 7.97 g. Naked youth on horse galloping r., raising whip with r. hand and holding reins in l. Rev. Oecist riding dolphin r., turning back to strike with trident held in r. hand; below, octopus. Vlasto 396. Fischer-Bossert 704c (this coin). Historia Numorum Italy 871. Extremley rare and in unusually fine condition for the issue. A magnificent reverse composition of fine style and a lovely old. Traces of restriking on reverse, otherwise about extremely fine Ex NAC 10, 1997, 18. From the A.D.M. collection.
