Description

Syracuse. Stater circa 317-306/5, AR 8.26 g. Head of Athena r., wearing crested Corinthian helmet, bowl decorated with griffin; behind, palladium. Rev. [Σ]ΥΡ – ΑΚΟΣΙΩ – И Pegasus flying l.; above, triskeles to r. and, below, ear of barley with stalk. Calciati 15 (this coin). SNG ANS 559. Struck on a very broad flan and a lovely old cabinet tone. Minor cleaning marks on reverse, otherwise good very fine / about extremely fine Ex Triton I, 1997, 357. From the Harald Salvesen collection.
