A Very Important Series of Coins of Syracuse mostly from a Distinguished European Collector
Tetradrachm circa 460-450, AR 17.34 g. Slow quadriga driven r. by charioteer holding kentron and reins; above, Nike flying r. to crown the horses. In exergue, ketos r. Rev. ΣVRAKOΣIO – N Head of the nymph Arethusa r., wearing pearl diadem, single pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, four dolphins swimming clockwise. Rizzo pl. XXXVII, 2 (these dies).
