An Attractive ‘Jutland Interest’ Great War Naval Watercolour Painting, with pen and ink details, of the Battleship H.M.S. Warspite, 51cm x 40.5cm, bearing a central image of H.M.S. Warspite at sea, surrounded by a ropework border with acorns and oak leaves, Union Jack below and battle honours beneath, including ‘Jutland 1916’, the picture signed in ink to reverse ‘Gunner F. Gleave to Gunner S. Press, 13th May 1918’, general creasing small folds and tiny tears along edges, and one larger tear to plain periphery at right hand side reaching inner border, otherwise relatively bright and fresh, and a scarce contemporary painting 13804 Gunner Frederick Gleave is confirmed on the nominal roll of H.M.S. Warspite for the Battle of Jutland as having served with the Royal Marine Artillery, as did 6909 Gunner Sydney William Press, R.M.A. Both were present aboard this vessel during the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1 June 1916, which was hit by the enemy 15 times in the course of the battle, and suffered 14 men killed and 16 wounded.
