Description

Naval General Service, 1909-62, single clasp, Persian Gulf 1909-1914 (235278. J. H. Allen, A.B. H.M.S. Philomel.), lightly toned, possible correction to second digit of service number, minor edge bruise and some light pitting, about very fine Able Seaman James Henry Allen was born on 19 November 1889 at St. Pancras, London, and enlisted for Royal Navy service on 24 November 1905 as Boy 2nd Class. He served aboard H.M.S. Philomel during the operations in the Persian Gulf, serving aboard this ship between 5 October 1911 and 22 October 1913 (roll confirms). He also served during the Great War at the rank of Able Seaman, including service aboard the Iron Duke (8 April 1915 to 8 August 1917), placing him aboard Admiral Sir John Jellicoes flagship during the Battle of Jutland. He concluded his Royal Naval service on 4 February 1925.
