A Great War and WW2 Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Group of 5 awarded to Able Seaman F. G. Brambley, H.M.S. Grasshopper, R.N., who apparently served aboard this gunboat on the Yangtze River on the China Station during the early months of WW2, comprising: British War Medal, 1914-1920 (J.80092 F. G. Brambley. Boy. 1 R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Defence and War Medals, 1939-45; Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct, G.VI.R. (J.80092 F.G. Brambley. A.B. H.M.S. Grasshopper); Group swing mounted as worn, mounted in incorrect order, with transmission slip (somewhat worn and stained), toned, generally good very fine (5) Able Seaman Frederick George Brambley was born on 28 February, 1902, at Alton, Hampshire, and enlisted for service with the Royal Navy at Portsmouth on 11 October 1917, beginning his training with the shore establishment H.M.S. Ganges as Boy 2nd Class during the Great War (B.W.M. his sole entitlement for WW1). Serving aboard the Princess Royal, Ceres, Columbine and Vernon, amongst others, and rising to the rank of Able Seaman, he appears to have retired from further service with the Royal Navy on 1 January 192, only to be recalled during WW2. He later received his R.N. L.S.G.C. medal on 26 May 1940 while serving aboard H.M.S. Grasshopper a Dragonfly-Class river gunboat, on the China Station, operating on the Yangtse River. Until the declaration of War by the Empire of Japan in December 1941, upon which she was transferred to Singapore Naval Base.
