Queen Elizabeth.); Offered with an associated Jutland Memorial Medal, unnamed, and a Royal Naval rank insignia for Petty Officer, medal group extremely fine, commemorative about VF with some bruising and light marks (5) Regulating Petty Officer Leonard William Tyso was born on 17 September 1884 at Coventry, and had previously worked as a Toolmaker before attesting for service with the Royal Navy on 31 October 1900 as a Boy 2nd Class at the shore-establishment H.M.S. Impregnable. He reached the rank of Signaller on 14 September 1902 aboard the Rattler, and Leading Signaller aboard the Gibraltar on 1 February 1904, but after service on various other ships he was made Ship’s Corporal 2nd Class aboard the Egmont on 17 February 1913.He later joined H.M.S. Monarch on 7 April 1914 as Ship’s Corporal 1st Class, and it was aboard this vessel that he took part in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916. During the battle, H.M.S. Monarch saw action - opening fire upon a German Light Cruiser (of the Kolberg class) and another Battle Cruiser (probably the Lutzow), but otherwise kept station on H.M.S. Orion. Tyso was later promoted to Regulating Petty Officer before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth on 15 November 1919, eventually retiring from further naval service on 17 November 1921.
