An India General Service ‘North West Frontier 1935’ and 1939-45 Star Pair awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Gompertz, Royal Artillery, who served on the North West Frontier in 1935 with the 7th Field Battery, 4th Regiment R.A., comprising: India General Service, 1908-35, single clasp, North West Frontier 1935 (Lieut. P. C. M. A. Gompertz. R.A.); 1939-45 Star,unnamed as issued; Pair loose, extremely fine (2) Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Charles Marie Anthony Gompertz was born on 9 June 1913 in Bangalore, the son of Martin Gompertz and Beryl Gompertz (née Fitch). After passing out from the Royal Military Academy he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant on 2 February 1933 with the Royal Artillery. Serving soon after on the North West Frontier in 1935 with the 7th Field Battery, RA. (entitled to medal and clasp as above), he was promoted to Lieutenant on 2 February 1936. Continuing to serve in WW2, he was promoted Captain on 2 February 1941 and was given the temporary ranks of Acting Major and Acting Lieutenant-Colonel during wartime. Confirmed in the rank of Major on 2 July 1946, he was placed on Half Pay ‘on account of disability’ on 26 February 1947 and then retired with the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel on 26 February 1947.
