Description

A Boer War Pair awarded to Private John Milne, West Riding Regiment, comprising: Queen’s South Africa, 1899-1902, 2nd type reverse with ghosted dates, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (1849 Pte J. Milne, W. Riding Regt); King’s South Africa, 1901-1902, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (1849 Pte J. Milne. W. Riding Regt); Pair loose, suspensions loose, the second once repinned with minor edge bump, good fine thus (2) Private John Milne, of Sandymount, Dublin, was born c.1864 and enlisted for service in the West Riding Regiment on 12 March 1886. Seeing plenty of service abroad early in his career, he spent almost two years service in Bermuda, two and half years in Halifax, and one year in Barbados. He also served in the Boer War in South Africa between 5 February 1900 and 25 June 1902 (roll confirms, entitlement as above). He retired on 30 June 1902 after 16 years and 111 days with the colours, but reenlisted, finally retiring from service on 29 September 19
