Thailand, The Ancient and Auspicious Order of the Nine Gems, Second period, post 1913, Male Knight’s set of insignia (one Class only), unmarked, comprising sash badge, in silver-gilt set with synthetic stones representing each of the nine precious stones, comprising ruby, emerald, topaz, garnet, sapphire, pearl, zircon, lapis-lazuli, and central diamond, the whole set with pastes, 33.5mm, breast star, in silver, the centre similarly set with pastes and nine synthetic representations of the precious stones, 81mm, in blue velvet and silk lined case, inside of lid with gilt Thai crown in circle, with inscription in outer circle cat’s eye on badge lacking, otherwise extremely fine, with sash (2). The Ancient and Auspicious Order of the Nine Gems was founded in 1851 by King Mongkut (Rama IV), it is the highest order that can be granted to Thai citizens. The gems represent the following, diamond, power, wealth and success over enemies; ruby, success and longevity; emerald strength and security, yellow sapphire, charm and love; garnet, health and longevity; blue sapphire, love and wealth; pearl, purity, happiness and success over enemies, zircon/topaz, wealth and success in legal affairs, cat’s eye, protection by spirits and from fire.
