Description

*Waterloo, 1815, with steel clip and ring suspension (A. Shannan, Assist. Surg. 3rd Batt. 14th Reg. Foot.), minor surface marks but generally good very fine. Assistant-Surgeon Alexander Shannon qualified as a Medical Doctor at Edinburgh in 1813, and was appointed first to Hospital Assistant on 4 October 1813, and then to Assistant Surgeon in the 3rd Battalion, 14th (Buckinghamshire) Foot on 27 January 1814. He was present at the Battle of Waterloo, where the 14th Foot suffered one officer and 17 men killed, with 20 men wounded. He remained with this battalion for some time (other than a short return home on ‘private affairs) but died soon after his arrival in Cawnpore on 18 June 1817. Offered with some copied paperwork and research.
