U.S.A., Philadelphia Kennel Club, silver prize medal awarded to Maizeland Kennels (of Red Hook, N.Y.) for Basset Hound Nemours, 1885, obv., the deerhound Hafed by Charles E. Barber (after the painting by Landseer), rev., engraved and dated 1885, 51mm, very fine. Nemours was bred in England in 1883 by Mr. Krehl. In the same year Nemours, with another basset, was purchased by Mr Chamberlain for the Maizeland Kennels, Red Hook, N.Y. and was the first basset hound to be shown in the USA, going on to become a champion dog. Copy-extracts from the 1885 Philadelphia show catalogue (showing Nemours as “not for sale”) and an image are offered with the medal.
