Avec la tranche lisse ! Le bandeau est à 6 rouleaux et 11 feuilles : cette variété est parfois considérée comme un essai. De minimes hairlines dans les champs, une infime rayure avant MEOS au revers. Flan bruni (PROOF) avec effet camée intense (ULTRA CAMEO), les champs miroir et les reliefs satinés. Patine aux reflets verdâtres. D’une grande rareté. Presque Fleur de Coin.
Un à deux exemplaires connus d’après Greg Holloway pour cette variété (bandeau à 6 rouleaux et 11 feuilles, tranche lisse). On relève cependant quatre exemplaires certifiés par NGC (vente Künker 380, n° 288 ; vente Numismatica Genevensis SA 16, n° 280 ; vente Sincona 75, n° 339 ; Stack’s Bowers vente de janvier 2017, Richard Stuart Collection, n° 2477) et deux par PCGS (vente St. James’s 26, n° 55, non certifié lors de la vente).
Conçue par William Wyon (1795-1851) en 1839 pour commémorer le début du règne de Victoria (en 1837), la pièce de 5 livres “Una and the lion” est reconnue comme l’une des plus belles pièces britanniques. Victoria, accompagnée d’un lion, avance à gauche, avec la devise “Que Dieu dirige mes pas”. La jeune reine, alors âgée de 20 ans, est représentée comme Lady Una, d’après un personnage du poème The Faerie Queene d’Edmund Spencer en 1590. Cette conception audacieuse est la première représentation d’un monarque britannique sous forme d’un personnage fictif : le lion qui représente l’Angleterre est dirigé par la reine Victoria, en tant qu’Una, qui le guide de son sceptre

グレッグ・ホロウェイ氏の説では当該タイプ(6つの渦巻きと11枚葉の柄のヘアバンド、プレーンエッジ)は現存数1〜2枚。しかしながら、NGC鑑定4枚 (Künker 380, n°288 / Numismatica Genevensis SA 16, n°280 / Sincona 75, n°339 / Stack’s Bowers ［2017年1月］, Richard Stuart Collection, n°2477) 、およびPCGS 鑑定2枚(うち1枚は当時未鑑定のSt. James’s 26, n°55)の現存が確認されています。
1839年、ヴィクトリア女王の即位（1837年）を記念し、ウィリアム・ワイオン（1795-1851年）の図案で製造された5ポンド金貨「ウナとライオン」は、英国コインの最も美しい代表作として有名です。 ライオンを伴い左へ向かうヴィクトリア、そして「神よ、我が行く手を導きたまえ」の銘文。詩人エドマンド・スペンサーの代表作『妖精の女王』（1590年）の登場人物レディ・ウナが、当時20才だった若き女王を象徴しています。架空の人物を用いて英国君主を表すという、それまでになかった大胆な着想です。英国を表すライオンを、笏を持ったウナ（ヴィクトリア女王）が導く様子が描かれています。

NGC PF 62 ULTRA CAMEO. With plain edge! The band is with 6 scrolls and 11 leaves: this variant is sometimes considered as a pattern. Light hairlines in the fields, a tiny scratch in the field before MEOS on the reverse. Proof strike with a Deep Cameo contrast (ULTRA CAMEO), mirror fields and glazed reliefs. Toning with greenish reflections. Of the highest rarity. Mint State.
One or two examples are known for this variety according to Greg Holloway (6 scroll band and 11 leaves). However, we could find four examples certified by NGC (Künker auction 380, n° 288; Numismatica Genevensis SA auction 16, n° 280; Sincona auction 75, n° 339; Stack’s Bowers auction of January 2017, Richard Stuart collection, n° 2477) and two by PCGS (St. James’s auction 26, n° 55, not graded at the time of the auction). Designed by William Wyon (1795-1851) in 1839 to commemorate the beginning of Victoria's reign (in 1837), the £5 coin "Una and the lion" is recognized as one of the finest British coins. Victoria, accompanied by a lion, walks on the left, with the motto "May God direct my steps". The young Queen, then aged 20, is depicted as Lady Una, based on a character in Edmund Spencer's 1590 poem The Faerie Queene. This bold design is the first depiction of a British monarch as a fictional character: the lion representing England is led by Queen Victoria, as Una, who guides it with her sceptre.
