Description

Indo Greeks, Silver Drachma (9), Set of 9 Coins of Different Rulers, about very fine to extremely fine, Very Rare.

a. Antimachos II Nikephoros (171-160 BC), Silver Drachma (2), Obv: a winged Nike standing facing to left, holding a palm branch with her left hand, a Taxila monogram on the left field, Greek legend "BASILEOS NIKEPHOROY ANTIMACHOY” “Basileos Nikhforos Antimachus” (.... King Antimachos, the victorious) around the field, Rev: a horse rider charging to the right, Kharoshthi legend “Maharajasa Jayadharasa Amtimakhsa" around the field, a monogram on the left field, 2.37gm, 16.98 mm each, (Mitch. ACW # 1674).

b. Apollodotus I (160-150 BC), Silver Drachma, Obv: an elephant walking to the right, Greek legend “BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΠOΛΛOΔOTOY ΣΩTHPOΣ" (King Apollodotos the Saviour), a monogram at below, Rev: a bull standing facing right, Kharoshthi legend “Maharajasa/Apaladatasa/Tratarasa” at three sides, a monogram at below, 2.30gm, 15.56 x 16.08 mm, (Mitch. ACW # 1751).

c. Menander I (155-130 BC), Silver Drachma (4), Obv: a diademed, helmeted bust of the king, facing right, Greek legend "BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣΩTHPOΣ / MENANΔPOY" “Basileos Soteros Menandrou” (…of king Menander, the Saviour) around the field, Rev: an upright Athena Alkidemos, facing the left and seen from behind, holding a shield horizontally with her outstretched left arm and hurling a thunderbolt with her right hand, the discontinuous Kharoshthi legend "Maharajasa tratarasa / menamdrasa" (Great King and Savior, Menander) around the field, a monogram on the right field, 2.17gm, 16.15 mm each, (Mitch. ACW # 1779-1782).

d. Antialcidas (115-95 BC), Silver Drachma (2), Obv: a diademed, helmeted bust of the king, facing the right, Greek legend “BAΣIΛEΩΣ NIKHΦOPOY / ANTIAΛKIΔOY" “Basileos Nikepherou Antialkidou” (...of Victorious King Antialcidas), Rev: an enthroned Zeus holding a scepter in the left hand, a winged Nike holding a wreath in his extended right arm, holding out a wreath to a baby elephant with a bell, Kharoshthi legend “Maharajasa Jayadharasa / Amtialikidasa”, a monogram on the right field, 2.27gm, 16.03 mm each, (Mitch. ACW # 1840-42).
