Five Pounds Nairne White Note B208b dated 24th June 1915 serial number 31/D 83624, VF and an Exceptionally Rare early example of the White Britannia medallion issues. Seldom seen by the public at the time as it would roughly be equal to a monthly wage, as average guards and signalmen would make about 25 to 35 shillings per week (20 Shillings in 1 Pound), these historic examples are consistently sought after by any collector. John Gordon Nairne served a long and prosperous career in the Bank service entering at a very young age in 1880. He was knighted in 1914 and created a Baronet in 1917.
