Description

Thailand (Siam) Government of Siam 10 Baht Pick 28 dated 15th October 1936 series N/50 81592, about VF and Scarce. This note in brown featuring a portrait of King Rama VIII Ananda Mahidol as a boy facing 3/4 left and a picturesque river and mountain scene on obverse. The reverse illustrating the Phra Samut Chedi temple. English printing by Thomas De La Rue & Company. A Scarce example of these early Siam issues just before Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram (contemporarily known as Phibun) dictatorship taking place which resulted in the country's name change to Thailand and transforming it from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. Phibun served as dictator and Prime Minister of Thailand from 1938 to 1944 and 1948 to 1957. A forceful nationalist and moderniser he was determined to bring his people into the modern world and at the same time to emphasise their unique identity.
