A Scarce example of these early Siam issues just before Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram (contemporarily known as Phibun) dictatorship taking place which resulted in the country's name change to Thailand and transforming it from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. Phibun served as dictator and Prime Minister of Thailand from 1938 to 1944 and 1948 to 1957. A forceful nationalist and moderniser he was determined to bring his people into the modern world and at the same time to emphasise their unique identity.
