Description

★ Mixing up an obverse legend of Constantine II with the portrait of Theodora ★

Constantine II, 337-340. Follis (Bronze, 16 mm, 1.42 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, after 337. CONSTAN-TINVS AVG Rosette-diademed and cuirassed bust of Theodora to right. Rev. GLORI-A EXER-CITVS / TRS(palm frond) Two soldiers standing facing each other, each holding inverted spear in his outer hand and placing his inner on shield set on ground; between them, signum. Cf. RIC 91 (for reverse prototype). Minor deposits, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Tetrarchy Collection, formed over the past twenty-five years.

This interesting imitation erroneously combines an obverse legend of Constantine II with the portrait of Theodora.
