Description

★ A nicely toned tetradrachm of Lysimachos ★

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.46 g, 12 h), uncertain mint. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟY Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with lion's head; behind, transverse spear; to inner left, monogram of AP; in exergue, monogram of ME. Meydancikkale -, cf. 2731 ( same obverse die, but different monogram in inner left field). Müller 434. Thompson -. Nicely toned. Some minor marks, otherwise, very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the 1970s.
